Colours, light, texture and luminosity are key components of Hunt's still life paintings. There is a nod to the Dutch Old Masters of the 17th century, but also conversely to the graphic impact and linear style of modern posters.

Hunt works from life and photographs. Kipling takes photos of flowers growing in gardens (so they can carry on with the good work), and in some instances grows them especially for painting in the studio.
